Good Friday Gardening: The beginning
This year my family and I wanted to start something new. We wanted to start a garden! Our health is so important and by growing our own foods, we are able to give our selves the best. So with the guidance of my Grandmother, we started our garden on Good Friday. We grew a variety of fruits and vegetables, and hopefully you will be inspired to do the same.
We went over to Home Depot and talked to an associate about our gardening options. We have a large yard and wanted to make sure we can grow the right fruits and vegetables for the space we have. Since we are beginngers, the associate showed us these little pods. They have the seeds and soil already in them, all we have to do is put them in the planters and water them. I got a few of those. The next things she showed us were a set of mini growers. You water them all and plant 2-3 seeds per pod. Allow them to sprout in the included greenhouse, then plants them. She mentioned they were beginner friendly. Of course I bought a 36 pack!
The hardest decision of the whole trip was picking out the seeds. We wanted to only plant the fruits and vegetables that we eat often. There were so many that we eat, so we had to scale our choices down. Thankfully there were packs of seeds that had 4 different fruits or vegetables within. It helped us to make a quicker choice.
We ultimately decided on carrots, roma and beef steak tomatoes, squash, cucumber, watermelon, cantaloupe, green onion, cilantro, dill, jalapeno, and strawberries. All of these choices were great for us. Hopefully we all green thumbs and can grow these fruits to maturity!
I will keep you guys updated on our progress!
