Easy Fondant Recipe
This easy fondant recipe, is quick and delicious. You can use fondant to cover almost anything! The recipe that I use makes about 2 lbs of fondant. But, of course you can add or reduce ingredients to your liking.
Any brand of products will work. Unless you have a preference. Color can be added by using gel or liquid.
1 16 oz bag of mini marshmallows
1 2 lb bag of powdered sugar
1-2 tbs of shortening
Lets get started
Place your marshmallows and 1 tbs of shortening into a microwave safe bowl. Shortening is optional during the actual heating process. I have made this recipe with and without. Begin heating at 30 second intervals stirring each time. After about 1-1:30 minutes or when it has reached a liquid state, it should be ready.
Now you can add about half of your powdered sugar to the bowl. It is best to add the powdered sugar using a sifter to prevent any possible lumps. It is much easier to mix in the bowl because it is more controlled. You can also pour it on a greased and powdered counter top. Either way works the same. Next you will want to combine or knead the mix until it becomes a dough. I like to have my hands greased with shortening for this process. You may need to add powdered sugar if it is still sticky.
Once mixed enough, you can move it onto the counter. This counter should be greased and or powdered to prevent any sticking. Knead in your color at this point. Keep kneading until everything is mixed and no longer sticky. Place your fondant in saran wrap or a freezer bag to keep it moist.
You can store fondant for up to two months in an air tight container. Its best not to freeze it or refrigerate it for longer than a few hours.
